Turn it off. Turn off the TV, the radio, the computer, the iPad, the cellphone. We live in a noisy world. Not only do people demand our attention but so do a myriad of electronic noise-makers. Want to stay sane? Want to become a saint? Turn it all off for a little while every day.
When we take time to be quiet we can think about what really matters. In our quiet space we're forced to face ourselves. How is my day going? My week? My life? Am I making choice that lead me toward happiness and holiness? Or am I running in circles?
God is there, in the quiet. He's waiting. He loves you! He delights in your company! In the quiet we may discover in ourselves a longing for MORE of God, for more of life, for more happiness, healing, and time to become who He created us to be. If we take time to be quiet we just might hear the voice of God, His soft and life-changing voice - the voice we can't hear when there is too much noise.
Have a big family? Lots of kids demanding your attention? You MUST find a few minutes a day of quiet in order to be a good parent. Bathtub. Walk around the block after supper. Sit in the car, alone. God calls us to the quiet. Jesus went out into the desert for quiet. You can find it. You can MAKE it. You need it. You'll be glad you did.
I am a Catholic wife, mom and grandma. In 1995, after Bible college and a few years as an Evangelical Missionary, I was received into the Church at the Easter Vigil. These are my personal musings on Scripture, prayer, and living close to Jesus.
