The Second Sorrow of Mary occurs when an angel comes to Joseph in the night and tells him to flee to Egypt to escape Herod's soldiers. Joseph obeys, and the Holy Family heads out. How frightening! To leave home in the middle of the night; to know that someone evil wants to kill your child; to go to an unknown, foreign country, away from your people, your neighbors, your family and your culture.
When we pray BIG during Lent, we remember every single person who has had to flee his or her home. Everyone who is on the road, who is running from war, persecution, danger. We pray for every refugee, no matter what their religion or race. We pray for mothers and fathers that are trying to get their children to safety. We pray for those who are far from home, from family. We pray for those who have left everything behind to find freedom and safety.
We can take every refugee in the whole world to Jesus. He knows who they are. He loves them. He knows their situation. He knows what they need. And His Mother wants to pray with us. Ask for her prayers. Pray BIG for all refugees this Lent.
I am a Catholic wife, mom and grandma. In 1995, after Bible college and a few years as an Evangelical Missionary, I was received into the Church at the Easter Vigil. These are my personal musings on Scripture, prayer, and living close to Jesus.
