Despite all the hype and happiness on TV, the tree, the lights, the candles, the cheerful music in every single store, some of us can get to feeling kind of sad at Christmas time. For me, there are a couple of reasons. First, my kids won't be here. They're grown and live far away, and it would be really unreasonable to expect them to tromp home, babies and car seats and luggage, every Christmas. So sometimes we're alone, and this is one of those years.
Second, my mom died three days before Christmas. It was clear back in 1977, but every December 21 I am at her bedside, watching her take her last breath. I accept the sadness, pray for her, and it passes. But what a way to mess up Christmas!
Maybe you have lonely, hard feelings at Christmas. It's actually really common. You aren't alone, you aren't weird, you are among friends who also struggle. Here are five little prayers you can say if you're feeling alone, sad, depressed, or overwhelmed at this time fo year. Jesus is near. And you are very dear to Him. Let Him take over.
The hardest thing in my spiritual life is letting go of control. I don't really have control over much, and I worry a lot about those things that are outside my control. Anxiety is the result. How about you?
Are you worried and anxious? Jesus says not to worry. That means it must be possible. This prayer has helped me a lot. I hope it helps you too. Jesus is near!
Father, hear our prayers for the salvation of the world.
Grant Mercy to all souls that turned away from You.
Open their hearts and minds with Your light.
Gather Your children from the east and the west, from the north and the south.
Have mercy O God, on those who do not know You.
Bring them out of darkness into Your light.
You are our saving God Who leads us in our salvation.
Protect us from evil.
Bless and praise You, O Lord, hear our prayers and answer us.
You, our Savior, are the hope of all the ends of the Earth and the distant seas.
May Your way be known upon Earth; among all nations Your salvation.
We put the world in Your hands; fill us with Your love.
Grant us peace through Christ, our Lord.

Lord, in the days leading up to your Passion, you were the subject of much gossip, which contributed to the sensibilities of the mob. Mob mentalities are never good, and too often gossip either arises from them, or feeds them. Wishing no part of that mindlessness, nor to be party to any act that makes me barter away the humanity of another for my own a amusement or validation - and wishing also, to always remember that you are present in each of my fellows - I beg you, like the Psalmist, to "set a guard over my mouth and keep watch at the door of my lips," particularly when I am in the company of others, and joining in casual talk, where discretion is too often lost. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
I did a radio segment the other day about how addicting iPads and iPhones and other interactive digital screens are to children and you they actually change the anatomy of a child's brain. A couple of people have asked me to post the link to one one of the articles here.

I admit it. I've been a bad blogger. BUT my podcasts are doing well - people from around the world are listening- and last spring I was asked to be a fill-in host for several hosts at Immaculate Heart Radio. I said "yes" not knowing that only a few months later they would offer me my own one-hour live radio show.
Right now it's a baby show, seriously. I don't even know if it's on the website yet! Today was Day Three. I wake up and work until show time, do the show, then collapse. Without the Lord, I can't do this. I told my husband it's like having a baby every single day!
So please say a prayer for me, and for the listeners. I want to reach out beyond typical Catholic radio to women (and men) who need to know they are loved and that their sins and problems are NO barrier if they go to Jesus. I would appreciate all your prayers! And I'll keep you posted.
This is not for kids. Nor is it for those who just want to gawk. This video is for those who lack understanding of the darkness of the homosexual life and feel they need to better understand. He now has a ministry to homosexual men who want out of the lifestyle. You can learn more about his ministry HERE.
I am a Catholic wife, mom and grandma. In 1995, after Bible college and a few years as an Evangelical Missionary, I was received into the Church at the Easter Vigil. These are my personal musings on Scripture, prayer, and living close to Jesus.
